Happy Friday, All!

I follow a great blog called Indexed, which has a very simple premise . "Published weekday mornings as the coffee brews," the author's approach to a wide variety of topics is to present her thoughts using simple diagrams she's drawn on index cards. It's a wonderful idea and I'm jealous for not thinking of it first. Such is creativity, though, right?

Anyway, all jealousy aside, the post this morning was perfectly suited for those who aspire to leadership. Among the greatest materials in the foundation for leaders is the ability to have a mind that is open to reason and able to change.

We may not always like the source of the information, whether it be from an unlikable individual, an unpopular publication, or any other less desirable source, but it is still important to have an open mind.

With that in mind, here's the index card from Indexed, as published today. Something to think about...

N.C. Teacher Rex Roland, Writes "Loser" On Student's Paper, Drawing Anger From Parents

Rex Roland, a 6th grade teacher in North Carolina, has made national headlines with his unorthodox grading methods.

...Roland twice wrote the word "Loser" on a student's paper, something that he called a "joke."

And yet, daddy and mommy will send their little girl back to school again.  You know, it's hard enough being a kid without some adult authority figure telling you you're a loser.  Kids need love and nurturing from adults they can trust. 

Come on, parents, there are alternatives to exposing your kids to abuse at government schools.  We'll discuss some of those alternatives in detail in later posts, but here are just a couple ideas to whet your appetite -- teach your own kids at home or enroll them into a private school.  These and other alternatives have merit, and they are certainly better than surrendering your most prized possessions to the care of people who most likely do not care for your kids the way you do.
